There's some bands and songs you always remember. Then there's some you always forget. Unfortunately, for me, Too Close To Touch falls in the latter and, honestly, it's a shame.

I just rediscovered them recently – having loved their debut album – when out of nowhere a song caught my ear and got a hold of me while driving. First red light, I went and checked the artist... And there they were. But this is a song I've never heard before, so it must be a new song. Like, new, new, right? Wrong.

From 2017, I present you, "Before I Cave In".

I’ll wait for you to worry
As a taste of truth is burning

Something’s slowly starving me
Were you even listening?
No, no, no
Gave you every part of me
Maybe you were meant to leave
So, so, so

You’re just no good for me, I’m a dying breed
Two hearts that beat in sync, but they could never be

Something’s slowly starving me
Were you even listening?
No, no, no
Gave you every part of me
Maybe you were meant to leave
So, so, so

So get out, get out of my head
"Just get out, get out!" I beg
Just get out, get out of my head
Before I cave in
So get out, get out of my head
"Just get out, get out!" I beg
Just get out, get out of my head
Before I cave in

You’ve got your grip on me
It’s just the way you need
To hell with you and everything you take from me

About the group of releases to which this song belongs, the band released an statement saying:

It explores the abrupt absence of someone you care about in life – be it romantic or otherwise. First comes the initial moment of clarity; realizing you’re better off without them. Next comes the relapse; you can’t get them out of your head, questioning if you ever had control in the first place. Lastly, finding yourself wanting nothing more than to rid your memories of what’s left and leave it all behind. I’ll leave you lonely before I cave in and watch us burn.

Unfortunately, Keaton Pierce, lead vocalist for the band, died on March 2022. May you find eternity in your music and music in your eternity.
